A reporter says she was harassed by a group of Orioles players who chanted a sexual slur after she entered the team locker room to conduct an interview.

Melody Simmons, a reporter for the Evening Sun in Baltimore, said she filed a complaint with team President Larry Lucchino after the incident Saturday in which the players were said to have chanted “wool, wool, wool.”

Simmons said she learned that the term wool is a derivative of the term wooling, a reference to sexual intercourse and a derogatory reference to women.

She had gone to the clubhouse to interview shortstop Cal Ripken Jr. Simmons said she left the room without interviewing Ripken but returned Monday and conducted the interview.

Lucchino apologized and said the incident was a prank that got out of hand, the reporter said.
