Murray Way Off Base for His Defense of Rose
What a hypocritically puritanical society we live in. We are about to ruin the career of Pete Rose, a good sportsman, for doing something that many sportsmen, by the very nature of sport, indulge in: They gamble. Any game is a gambling proposition. It can be a small bet between friends or big money through a bookie.
If we wish to continue to pretend that gambling does not exist among the participants in major league sporting events, then Rose should be suspended for a short time.
But to throw him out of the game he loves?
Now, that’s not sporting.
