Barratt Irvine, a division of home builder Barratt American, has named Stefan Markowitz president. In his new post, Markowitz will oversee the development, construction and marketing of the division’s projects in Orange, San Bernardino and north Riverside counties. He will be working out of the Irvine office.

Ted Peterson, vice president of Asset Management Group in the San Diego area, a division of Collins Development Co. and La Jolla Development Co., has been made a partner in Collins Development. Peterson is responsible for retail leasing operations with Asset Management Group, which handles the property management and leasing of commercial and retail properties for the other companies.

Hopkins Development Co., a specialist in shopping center redevelopment, has added John Withers to its staff as senior vice president of residential development. He will oversee the residential part of the firm’s mixed-use projects, act as a liaison with contracted developers and evaluate residential components of existing properties. The Newport Beach-based company has sites in La Mirada, San Ramon, Laguna Beach and San Francisco.

Michael Koss, chairman and chief executive officer of Koss Financial Corp. in Los Angeles, has been elected to the board of directors of the Business Property Council of Los Angeles. The organization has been created to represent the commercial real estate industry and to promote careful planning of development.

Kathleen Dantagnan has joined Urban West Communities as vice president of marketing and sales. She will be responsible for all aspects of marketing and sales in the company’s regional offices. Dantagnan will also be in charge of product design, interior design, public relations, and escrow and loan functions.

Watson Land Co. has announced the promotion of Pilar Perry to vice president of public affairs. She will handle the company’s role in civic activities. Watson is a major developer of industrial centers in Los Angeles County.

Deyo P. Breen has been named vice president of operations for the Inland Empire division of Calprop Corp. Breen will be in charge of all of Calprop’s activities, including land acquisition and construction.

Arthur D. Aston Jr. has been appointed executive vice president and corporate secretary of the American Industrial Real Estate Assn. The 1,200-member organization represents more than 150 industrial real estate offices in the Southern California area.

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors has appointed Judith Hane Leimert to the Los Angeles County Child Care Advisory Board. Leimert, senior vice president and general counsel of Watt Industries, is the only real estate developer on the 19-member advisory board of business and civic leaders.

ACCOLADES: Paul E. Griffin Jr., president and chief executive officer of Griffin Homes, has received the Edward A. Dickson Alumnus of the Year Achievement Award for his longtime volunteer and philanthropic efforts on the university’s behalf. This award is the highest honor bestowed by the UCLA Alumni Assn.

Howard F. Thompson Associates Inc., a Newport Beach-based architecture, land planning and interior design firm, has announced four promotions to the post of senior associate: John S. Delacy, project manager; Sohrab Charna, project manager; Daniela Bogdan-Kennedy, director of planning coordination, and Leonard Malmquist, director of design.

Glenda Young has joined Los Angeles- and Montclair-based CHCG Architects as manager of marketing. Her duties will include coordinating the firm’s business development, client services and public relations. CHCG specializes in corporate, educational, public, industrial and health-care facilities throughout the Southland.

Mark Handler has been named senior project manager at Knitter & Associates in Newport Beach. Handler has developed expertise over the past 12 years in attached housing and land planning.

Edward Carson Beall & Associates, a Torrance-based architectural and interior design firm, has appointed Won Na Ng to project architect. She will be responsible for the design and development of custom single-family homes and remodels, from initial conception to completion.

Gordon, Friedman, Baldwinson, Associates has announced four new project directors: Marc Dubin, Ron McMaster, George Levinthal and Richard Fletcher. The Encino-based firm focuses on retail and mixed-use projects.

Tracey Hall & Associates Inc., a shopping center marketing strategy firm, has appointed Kim Olson its marketing manager. The company is headquartered in Newport Beach. Olson will handle the consumer marketing of Seventh Market Place, as well as the public relations for Citicorp Plaza’s 777 Tower and tenant relations for Citicorp Center, located in downtown Los Angeles.
