Sheriff’s deputies and police from Escondido and Oceanside pursued a suspected car thief for more than an hour Tuesday before wounding and apprehending him in Vista, authorities said.

Escondido police chased the driver of a stolen vehicle, a boy of 16, from Escondido to Vista, at which point sheriff’s deputies took over, said Sheriff’s Lt. David Herbert. From there, the chase continued to Oceanside before returning to Vista, he said.

The suspect finally abandoned the vehicle about 6:15 a.m. near Rainbow Court and Nettleton Drive, fleeing through back yards on foot, according to police.
