Pope Names 2 Bishops in Michigan, Louisiana

VATICAN CITY —
Pope John Paul II on Tuesday named Msgr. Robert John Rose to be bishop of Grand Rapids, Mich., and appointed Father Sam Jacobs as bishop of Alexandria, La.
The Vatican said Rose, 59, currently bishop of Gaylord, Mich., will replace Bishop Joseph Matthew Breitenbeck, who has retired. Jacobs, 51, will replace John C. Favolara, who has become bishop of St. Petersburg, Fla.
