NATION : Drought Crisis Declared in N. Dakota

BISMARCK, N.D. — Officials declared a statewide drought disaster in North Dakota today--the first step in making farmers eligible for federal assistance.
“The 1988 drought never really ended, although we had some relief until just a few weeks ago,” Lt. Gov. Lloyd Omdahl said, in announcing the disaster declaration for Gov. George Sinner, who is out of the state. “Now, we’re back to a very serious situation,” Omdahl said.
