EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — A. J. Foyt was charged with simple assault today after an incident in which the four-time Indianapolis 500 winner allegedly pushed a security guard at the Meadowlands.
Foyt, 54, reportedly got into a heated argument when the guard challenged him as he attempted to walk through a vehicles-only gate to get to his team truck. A spokesman for the New Jersey State Police said, “There was a minor pushing match with an admissions guard. He (Foyt) was confronted about credentials and the guard challenged him when he tried to get by him.
“It was a minor thing, just a misunderstanding. The young man decided he wanted to file simple assault charges.”
