North’s Sentence in Iran-Contra Fiasco
The President and many others propose a constitutional amendment to protect the flag, a “national symbol” from desecration. Meanwhile, Ollie North desecrates our system of laws and rules, also a “national symbol,” and he gets a wrist slap. The same people who are mortally offended by the flag burning decision have no trouble justifying North’s admitted transgressions of the law because he did it in the “national interest.”
Come on. What are we supposed to tell our children? That some “symbols” have value and others don’t? That some laws must be obeyed and some need not? None of this makes any sense.
