Industrial Lease Forms Available in ‘Plain English’

A “plain English” industrial lease form designed to reduce landlord-tenant litigation is now available throughout California and can be purchased from realty boards or through the California Assn. of Realtors.

Steve Claman, senior partner of the law firm of Greenberg, Glusker, Fields, Claman & Machtinger, authored the leases in cooperation with the Society of Industrial and Office Realtors.

“Every provision in the lease forms and riders has been written in concise and direct sentences comprehensible to laymen,” Claman said.

The new system of leases summarizes all business points on the first page of the lease, addresses and resolves issues that often lead to litigation, reduces negotiation time and drafting expense, Claman added.
