Stars Overcome Strings, 25-24, in TeamTennis
Bill Scanlon and Shaun Stafford defeated John Lloyd and Anne Minter, 7-6, in a super tiebreaker Tuesday night as the New Jersey Stars rallied to defeat the Los Angeles Strings, 25-24, in TeamTennis competition before 1,554 at the Forum.
Scanlon and Stafford forced an overtime by winning the final set--mixed doubles--6-3. Under league rules, if the team trailing wins the final set, the match goes into its overtime format.
After tying the match, 24-24, Scanlon and Stafford then forced the super tiebreaker.
The Strings, who have lost three in a row, led 6-4 in the tiebreaker, but New Jersey rallied for the 7-6 victory.
