No Sentence Yet From Lucas Jury

Jurors deciding the fate of multiple murderer David Lucas went home for the weekend Friday without reaching a decision on whether to sentence him to death.

The jury is expected to resume deliberations Monday morning. It apparently was dismissed about 11 a.m. Friday.

Reporters and the public were excluded from the courtroom by Superior Court Judge Laura Hammes, and it was not known what occurred during the closed hearings attended by lawyers in the case.

Lucas, 34, a Spring Valley carpet cleaner, was found guilty by the same jury June 21 of the first-degree murder of two women and a child and the attempted murder of a third woman.

The jury will decide whether to sentence Lucas to death or life in prison without parole.
