Not Everyone Adored Shoemaker at the Track
Jim Murray should reconsider his definition of the word loyalty. How loyal was Bill Shoemaker when in 1979, as a member of the Jockeys’ Guild, he crossed the picket line of the striking Pari-Mutuel Employees Guild, Local 280, to ride at Hollywood Park?
The Shoe “never made an enemy” in 40 years around the race track, huh? If Murray would ask those of us who were on the bricks all those weeks in 1979 while he continued to ride, he might get a different answer.
