Nashwan edged Cacoethes by a neck to win the King George VI Stakes at Ascot, England, completing an unprecedented sweep of the four major events of the English horse racing season.
Nashwan, who won the 2,000 Guineas, Derby and Eclipse races, held off Cacoethes in a dramatic stretch run in the 1 1/2-mile event to earn $350,000 for owner Hamdan Al-Maktoum. Top Class, a 50-1 shot, held on for third place.
The 3-year-old Nashwan, a 2-9 favorite ridden by Willie Carson, was timed in 2 minutes 32.23 seconds.
