IBIS Lays Off 120; Plans Move to Camarillo

Share

IBIS Systems announced that it laid off nearly half its employees as a result of a slowdown in orders from supercomputer manufacturers. IBIS president and chief executive officer Don Sturtz said almost all of the 120 layoffs were employees in the company’s Westlake Village facility.

In a related move, IBIS, which makes computer data storage systems, announced that it would relocate its headquarters and manufacturing from Westlake Village to a smaller facility in Camarillo. Sturtz said that the move to Camarillo would be complete in 3 1/2 months.

IBIS said it would attempt to refocus its manufacturing on high-speed data storage devices for high-powered microcomputers. IBIS, a privately held company, has depended on one supercomputer manufacturer, Cray Research, for more than half of its $50 million plus in annual sales.
