Russell School Safe, Parents Say
Parents of students at Russell Elementary School in Los Angeles defended the school Monday against accusations that it is located in a “gang-infested environment.”
They said parents of Cudahy’s Park Avenue School have been saying publicly that they will fear for their children’s lives when the youngsters are transferred this week from their closed school to Russell.
Park Avenue School was closed last week to allow for an investigation of a mysterious, oily substance oozing onto the school’s playground.
Authorities ordered the school closed and transferred the 1,100 pupils enrolled at the year-round facility to Russell, which normally is operated on a nine-month school year.
