Kaiser Permanente to Expand: Fueled by a recent surge in membership growth, Kaiser Permanente will undertake a $3.6-billion expansion and renovation plan during the next decade, administrators announced. The Oakland-based health maintenance organization’s hospitals in San Francisco and Walnut Creek, Calif., will undergo major renovations, and a hospital in Richmond, Calif., will be replaced. More doctors, nurses and technicians will be hired, and equipment will be added and updated.
