Two men held in connection with the shooting death of a former San Marino college tennis player pleaded not guilty in Pasadena Municipal Court Tuesday to charges of murder and attempted murder.

Eric Beauchamp, 21, of Highland Park, and Raed Abujaber, 21, of Pasadena, remained in custody without bail, said Pasadena Police Sgt. Monte Yancey. Each of the men faced two charges--of murder and attempted murder.

They are suspected of fatally shooting college tennis player David Young, 21, and wounding his passenger, Alan Harlan, 21, as they were riding a motorcycle near the Rose Bowl in the early morning hours of July 19.

Police believe Beauchamp may have had a grievance with Harlan, Yancey said. Young, who was the top-seeded player at Grossmont College in San Diego last year, did not appear to be involved in the dispute, he said.

Harlan was taken in critical condition to Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena after the shooting and had improved to serious condition when he was moved to an undisclosed location Saturday.
