Monterey Park : Water District Hearing Set

Share

The Metropolitan Water District will hold a public hearing tonight on its proposal to build a $3-million to $4-million maintenance facility at the Garvey Reservoir along Orange Avenue.

The planned 20,000-square-foot facility would replace the office and the mechanical and electrical repair operations now at Soto Street in Los Angeles. Richard Balcerzak, the agency’s assistant general manager, said the district plans to close its Soto Street maintenance headquarters.

The Monterey Park site, he said, is a better location where an improved headquarters can be built. The new facility would be the base for about 60 employees whose jobs involve traveling to other work sites throughout the central area of Los Angeles County. The district owns the reservoir and portions of adjacent Garvey Ranch Park.

“We think we’ve been good neighbors with the city of Monterey Park,” Balcerzak said. “We’re giving people the opportunity to respond to our plans.”

The hearing is scheduled for 7 p.m. in the President’s Ballroom of the Lincoln Plaza Hotel, 123 S. Lincoln Ave.
