Digital Equipment Corp.: The Maynard, Mass., computer manufacturer reported that fiscal 1989 profit was down 17.8% to $1.1 billion. Revenue for the year rose 11% to $12.7 billion. In the fourth quarter, earnings were $313.2 million, down 21.9% from the same period a year ago. Fourth-quarter revenue rose 4.7% to $3.5 billion. The company said the drop in earnings was partly due to lackluster conditions in the U.S. market and a strengthened dollar overseas.
