Murphy Gets 2 Homers, 6 RBIs in Inning; Braves Win
Dale Murphy hit two home runs and drove in six runs in the sixth inning to tie two major league records as the Braves routed the San Francisco Giants, 10-1, at Atlanta Thursday night.
The record of two homers in the same inning is shared by 14 players, and the one-inning RBI record by 10. Murphy, who has 11 homers and 54 RBIs, has five home runs and 14 RBIs in his last nine games.
“I don’t know what to say,” Murphy said. “The home runs are not something I have been trying to hit the last couple of days. I just wish I had been doing more before this.
“Just getting up twice in one inning is unusual. I don’t remember doing that very often. As for the homers, I’m thrilled but I don’t know what else to say.”
Atlanta Manager Russ Nixon said: “He won’t continue to stay this hot, but the consistency in his hitting is there now. I know it’s a relief to him that he knows he can hit home runs again.”
