The Joker’s Job on Cheapo Art

Re the July 16 Art News column, “Joker’s Slash Act an Artless Endeavor,” by Zan Dubin:
I find it hard to believe that LACMA officer Ron Haver’s “jaw went crashing to his chest” and that Times movie critic Sheila Benson’s stomach churned at seeing the defacing of those obvious cheap fakes in the movie “Batman.”
In a television broadcast, critic Rex Reed commented that the paintings looked like K-mart reproductions. The scene was about as real-looking as Godzilla destroying Tokyo. I seriously doubt that the Joker’s evil deeds against art will start an epidemic.
