Representatives of the Kumeyaay Indians and the Roman Catholic diocese signed a pact Thursday ending a bitter dispute over Indian remains unearthed at Mission San Diego de Alcala, said mission and Kumeyaay spokesmen.

The agreement designates part of the hilltop site as an Indian cemetery and scuttles diocese plans to build a parish meeting hall there. Indian remains removed from the site to the Museum of Man will be reburied in their original locations today and Saturday, a Kumeyaay spokeswoman said.
