WORLD : Mother-Son Car Race Injures Five

FUERTH, West Germany —
A midnight motor race between a tipsy West German housewife and her son ended when the woman’s car plowed into a column of marching soldiers, seriously injuring five, police said today.
The 41-year-old woman lost control of her car on a bridge near this southern town Thursday night. It hit eight soldiers, flinging some into the river. Four soldiers were in critical condition in a hospital. Neither the woman nor her 20-year-old son was hurt.
