A TIGER’S FLAG FLIES FOR THE LAST TIME

Share

Flying Tiger’s corporate flag flew outside its Los Angeles headquarters Friday on the company’s last day of business. On Monday, the 44-year-old air cargo carrier becomes part of Federal Express, an overnight package delivery service. To prepare for that, work crews removed the Flying Tiger name from the airline’s headquarters building at Los Angeles International Airport on Friday and started taking the name off Tiger’s aircraft. Federal Express, based in Memphis, Tenn., paid $880 million for Tiger International, the parent of Flying Tiger, last December and has been working to blend the companies’ operations. Federal Express said Friday that governments of 19 of the 21 countries served by Tiger, including Japan, granted it permission to take over Tiger’s valuable landing rights in those nations. Federal Express said permission was expected from Argentina and Venezuela soon.
