Ignoring a boycott by Arab nations, Japan’s Honda Motor Co. will begin selling cars in Israel next year, Honda’s U.S. subsidiary said today.

U.S. Honda spokesman Robert Butorac said American Honda will be selling cars made at its Marysville, Ohio, plant.

Will Maslow, general counsel for the American Jewish Congress, called the Honda decision a “breakthrough.” Maslow said he understands that Japan’s Toyota Motor Co. has also agreed in principle to ship cars to Israel from its British plant.
