A suspected gang member has been arrested by Los Angeles police for allegedly gunning down a West Los Angeles man in Pacific Palisades early July 29.

Members of the Los Angeles Police Department’s anti-gang unit, Community Resources Against Street Hoodlums, arrested Ruben Rodriguez, 24, shortly after 5 a.m. at a relative’s apartment in Mar Vista Gardens, Detective Bill Humphry said.

Humphry said Efigenio Vital, 20, was shot and killed on Asilomar Boulevard in the seaside community after an argument with Rodriguez and other gang members at a party July 29. Police say Vital was an associate of a rival gang.

Vital and several friends apparently drove to a cul-de-sac at the end of Asilomar Boulevard above Pacific Coast Highway to enjoy the ocean view after the party and another car carrying Rodriguez arrived later. The occupants called out the name of a gang, then fired several shots, fatally wounding Vital, Humphry said.
