Firefighters Cited for Halting Suicide
Los Angeles Fire Capt. Donald Stukey and Firefighter Jeffrey Dapper have been awarded departmental commendations for rescuing a man who was threatening to commit suicide last October.
Stukey and Dapper found the man--incoherent and semiconscious--at Florence Avenue and Main Street atop a 50-foot power pole, trapped between high-voltage wires, fire officials said.
The firefighters carefully positioned their ladder and removed the man from the pole, saving his life, officials said.
Stukey’s and Dapper’s “performance under dangerous conditions showed initiative, responsibility and a deep respect for life,” departmental reports said.
