Staying Power: ABC News senior correspondent John Scali has signed a new four-year contract with the network. Scali, 71, was the first reporter signed by ABC News in 1961 when James C. Hagerty, who had been President Eisenhower’s press secretary, took over as vice president of news and public affairs for the network. Though not frequently seen on the air now, Scali continues reporting in the diplomatic and intelligence areas, his special fields. Associates say of Scali, “He still has the best sources in town.”
