Van de Kamp’s Seafoods to Be Sold: Chicago-based Whitman Corp. has agreed to buy Van de Kamp’s Frozen Seafoods from Pillsbury Co. for $140 million. Whitman said its Pet Inc. unit will integrate Van de Kamp into its frozen foods business. The deal is expected to close in mid-September. Van de Kamp is based in San Diego and has its lone processing plant in Erie, Pa. It has 300 employees and annual sales of more than $100 million. Whitman is a consumer goods and services company whose operating companies are Pet, Pepsi-Cola General Bottlers, Hussmann Corp. and Midas International.
