Metro Rail Worker Suffers Broken Leg

A Metro Rail construction worker was hit by a pipe Tuesday while working on scaffolding about 80 feet underground and suffered a broken leg, officials said.

The man, who was not immediately identified, was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital for treatment, said Jim Wells, Fire Department spokesman.

The worker was helping to load and unload supplies at 7:38 a.m. into the construction pit downtown Los Angeles at 120 S. Olive St. when one end of a pipe being lowered into the site slipped from its tether and struck him, Rapid Transit District spokesman Greg Davy said.

The man’s leg was broken and co-workers helped lower him to the floor of the site, where his leg was placed in a splint by paramedics. He was then placed in a basket and lifted out of the pit, Davy said.
