Temple City : Agency to Take 9 Properties

Share

The Temple City Redevelopment Agency voted Tuesday to use eminent domain to acquire three businesses and six homes at Rosemead Boulevard and Las Tunas Drive to make way for a 110,000-square-foot shopping center.

Many residents and business people have opposed the project, saying it would cause traffic problems at the busy intersection and involve the unfair seizure of businesses and homes.

But the agency, which is made up of all the members of the City Council, decided the benefits of building a new shopping center outweighed the opponents’ complaints.

The city estimates it will pay $4 million to acquire the properties.

Construction of the $15-million shopping center--which developers hope will include a restaurant, clothing store and bank--is expected to begin next spring and be completed by the fall.
