Three teen-agers were arrested for allegedly using a tire iron to smash windows and side-view mirrors on as many as 40 parked cars early Wednesday in Thousand Oaks, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department reported.

The teen-agers allegedly caused more than $5,000 in damage on residential streets near Avenida De Los Arboles and North Moorpark Road, Lt. Dick Purnell said.

Robert Jenkins, 19, of Thousand Oaks was being held in lieu of $5,000 bail at the Ventura County Jail, Purnell said. Two boys, 14 and 17, also of Thousand Oaks, were detained at Ventura County Juvenile Hall, he said.

“It was just a spur-of-the-moment, ‘let’s-go-out-and-do-something’ kind of thing,” Purnell said.
