Yankees’ Polonia Is Freed on Bail
Outfielder Luis Polonia of the New York York Yankees was freed on $5,000 bail Wednesday after being arrested at a Milwaukee hotel in connection with an incident apparently involving a 15-year-old girl, authorities said.
John DiMotto, assistant district attorney, spent several hours interviewing police, the girl and Polonia’s attorney. The prosecutor would not say whether he spoke with the outfielder.
DiMotto said he telephoned Judge Michael Malmstadt, who then set bail at $5,000. DiMotto said Polonia was ordered to remain in Milwaukee and would be interviewed today.
The Yankees left after Wednesday’s game for Detroit, where they open a four-game series today.
A police report said Polonia, 24, was arrested in connection with an investigation of second-degree sexual assault.
