All lanes of the Golden State Freeway were reopened to traffic near the Los Angeles County-Kern County line this morning after a fiery collision that involved five vehicles and left one woman dead, the California Highway Patrol said.

All eight lanes of the freeway were closed after the 8:30 p.m. accident Thursday, when a double-trailer truck apparently lost its brakes and barreled at 100 m.p.h. down the northbound slope of the Grapevine near Frazier Park, said Officer Mark Ehly. The truck struck a car and a U-haul truck before turning over and bursting into flames. The truck’s load of 30,000 pounds of rolled wire spread across all eight lanes of the freeway, striking two more cars, Ehly said.

The driver of the car hit by the truck, Rosalee McIntyre, 42, of Paso Robles, was killed, officials said. The truck driver, Antonio Ramos, 22, of San Jose, and a passenger in the U-Haul truck, Kathi Randal, 28, of Modesto, were treated for serious injuries at Kern Medical Center in Bakersfield.

The CHP began opening southbound lanes of the freeway an hour after the accident. But the northbound lanes remained closed until shortly after midnight, when two lanes were opened to traffic. The remaining two lanes were opened at 6:45 a.m.
