The proposal to put a 6,720-bed maximum-security county jail in Gypsum Canyon will be discussed before the Orange County Planning Commission Tuesday during a public hearing to consider changing the land-use designation for 2,000 acres in the canyon from open space to public facilities. The commission will also discuss a plan to eliminate a portion of Santa Ana Canyon Road between Weir Canyon Road to Gypsum Canyon Road. That portion would no longer be needed if the jail is built.
