Selection Process for Site for New Regional Airport

Share

How could anyone consider a commercial airport site in San Bernardino, as suggested in an article on one page of the Times (Aug. 5) and then see the air-quality report nine pages later indicating the highest pollutant index is in San Bernardino?

This article quoted Rep. Ron Packard (R-Carlsbad) opposing a site in his district that “would have a very serious impact on the environment.” Packard said he was talking with Rep. George Brown Jr. (D-Colton) about the idea of the airport at Norton Air Force base, which will close and cause economic and job losses.

Surely with the Inland Empire (which includes San Bernardino) being one of the fastest growing areas, they can find other means to bring up the economy and provide jobs.

Of any airport sites they have suggested, it would seem that San Bernardino should be at the bottom of the list!
