Huntington Beach : Volunteers for Pier Fund Raising Sought

Share

Volunteers are sought to help organize community fund-raising events to rebuild the Huntington Beach Pier.

The reconstruction cost is estimated at $11 million. Although government agencies are being lobbied for contributions, private donations are also needed.

The City Council-appointed Pier Funding Committee has therefore formed a subcommittee to organize grass-roots activities.

Other related subcommittees include the Local Business Coordinating Committee, the Homeowners Assn. Coordinating Committee and the Public Relations Committee.

People interested in volunteering for any of these groups may send a brief note including name, address, telephone number and area of interest to Pat Dapkus, 2000 Main St., Huntington Beach, Calif. 92648. Potential volunteers may also call Dapkus at (714) 536-5579.

The Pier Funding Special Events volunteers have already raised about $100,000 through community activities including a Run for the Pier, a seniors dance and a student sale of bookmarks.
