An Encino man who had just used an automated teller machine at a West Los Angeles bank was fatally shot this morning by one of two men who tried to rob him, police said.

Jerry Weber, 49, was shot at 12:05 a.m. while in his parked car with his wife at a Wells Fargo bank in the 3100 block of Sepulveda Boulevard, Detective Chuck Worthen said.

Weber got into the car after completing a transaction at the bank’s nearby automated teller machine when two men confronted him, Worthen said. One was armed with a handgun and shot Weber several times during an apparent robbery attempt, Worthen said. They then fled in a car.

It was not known if anything was taken from Weber, and Worthen declined to say whether he had resisted.

Weber was taken by paramedics to UCLA Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. His wife, whose name was not released, was not injured.
