South Gate : Police Reach Tentative Agreement on Contract

Share

South Gate police officers, who engaged in a two-day sickout earlier this month over a contract dispute, reached a tentative agreement with the city last week, according to City Administrator Bruce Spragg.

Terms of the agreement were not disclosed by either union representatives or city officials. “We don’t want to create any controversy. We believe all of the problems are resolved,” Spragg said.

Spragg said the City Council is expected to ratify the agreement during its regular meeting Monday, when the terms are expected to be disclosed.

The city had been negotiating with the South Gate Police Officers’ Assn. since April. A two-year contract expired June 30.

The majority of the 91-member force took part in the job action to protest the salary and benefit package offered by the city.
