Dentist Bullard Dead at Age 94; Pioneer in Field

Dr. Orlan Kellogg Bullard, who in 1935 was the first American dentist to use intravenous anesthesia in oral surgery, died Tuesday after a brief illness. He was 94.
Bullard was a leader in dentistry and had received many professional awards. He had been a San Diego resident since 1908.
He is survived by his wife, Lucinda C. Bullard; a daughter, Sally Bullard Thornton, and two grandsons, Mark Bullard Thornton and Steven Brian Thornton.
Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. today at El Camino Memorial Park and Mortuaries, 5600 Carroll Canyon Road. Services will follow at the mortuary at 2:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the San Diego Zoological Society.
