P.M. BRIEFING : Toshiba to Make Fax Machine in Calif.

Japanese electronic firm Toshiba Corp. said today it will produce a popular desktop facsimile machine at a plant in Irvine, Calif.

Toshiba said the machine will be produced at the Irvine facility operated by its subsidiary, Toshiba America Information Systems Inc. The initial production rate will be 1,000 units per month and will be expanded according to market demand, the company said.

Toshiba’s subsidiary has been producing telecommunication systems and laptop personal computers since 1987. Its production was expanded to include cellular mobile telephones and copying machines earlier this year.
