A gun-wielding robber struck two households on 54th Street on Saturday night, prompting San Diego police to go door to door the next day in the Oak Park neighborhood to warn residents.

The robber, whose victims were all elderly, was still at large Sunday evening, according to police spokesman Bill Robinson.

In one robbery, in the 3200 block of 54th Street, the suspect was let into the house by residents who believed he was an Avon representative, Robinson said.

A 76-year-old man who was watching television in his living room was forced to lie down on the floor, then robbed of about $100, Robinson said. The robber then attempted to rape the victim’s wife.

In the other incident, the robber forced open a window of a home in the 3100 block of 54th Street, and demanded money from the 70-year-old resident, Robinson said. The victim, who had no money to give the robber, was injured slightly when the suspect struck him in the head with a gun.

The same robber also knocked on the door of a third home and said he was looking for “Jimmy,” but the occupants refused to let him in, Robinson said.

All three incidents occurred between 8:30 and 9 p.m.

The suspect is described as a black male, about 30 years old, between 5-foot-9 and 6 feet tall, thin to medium build with a short Afro haircut.
