Philippine troops arrested a Communist rebel who admitted taking part in the April slaying of a U.S. Army colonel in a Manila suburb, the military announced. Juanito Itaas, 25, was arrested after intelligence reports linked him to the April 21 slaying of Col. James Rowe, the announcement said. It was the first time Philippine authorities had claimed to have jailed one of Rowe’s killers. Rowe was slain on his way to work at the Joint U.S. Military Assistance Group in Quezon City.
