Soccer superstar Diego Maradona, who has announced that he will return to Naples this week after a long holdout, may face severe disciplinary action because he extended his vacation in Argentina without being authorized to do so by the Napoli club.

The secretary general of the International Soccer Federation said Monday that the highest soccer body may ban the Argentine player from the 1990 World Cup.

Meanwhile, the disciplinary commission of the Italian league will decide early next month whether Napoli can fine Maradona half his yearly salary of $1.5 million.
