Deputies Stop Speeding Car, Deliver Baby but No Ticket
Los Angeles sheriff’s deputies pulled over a speeding car early Monday and then quickly acted as midwives in the delivery of a 6-pound, 14-ounce boy.
Lentrial Terrell was born about 4 a.m. in the front seat of a large sedan near the southside intersection of Central Avenue and Nadeau Street with the aid of Deputies James Rifilato and Morrie Zager, said Deputy Chris Wahla, a department spokesman .
The newborn and his mother, 23-year-old Paula Terrell, were “doing fine,” said a nursing supervisor at Martin Luther King Jr./Drew Medical Center.
Terrell’s brother was racing her to the hospital when Rifilato, 29, and Zager, 23, pulled them over. Her brother, who was not identified, “excitedly” told deputies that his sister was in labor, Wahla said. Deputies radioed for paramedics, but Lentrial was born before paramedics arrived.
