Jack Clark Drives In Seven Runs to Lift Padres Past Braves, 10-9
Jack Clark has long been an outstanding player--but he has seldom been around for stretch drives. When his teams were in pennant races, Clark always seemed to get hurt. This season might be an exception.
The Padres, who beat the Atlanta Braves, 10-9, Monday night at Atlanta, were trailing, 8-3, when Clark went to work in the seventh inning. He hit a grand slam, then hit a three-run home run in the eighth to win it. The seven runs are the most Clark has ever driven in in a game and it extended the Padres’ winning streak to four games. The Padres moved into a tie with Houston for second place in the West, seven games behind San Francisco.
