Drugs, Suspected Aliens Are Seized

Complaints from residents in the area of Central and University avenues Thursday led U. S. Border Patrol agents to the capture of five suspected illegal aliens and the recovery of a gun and a quantity of drugs, an agency spokesman said.

Agents arrived in the area about 10:30 a.m., according to spokesman Michael Gregg. They saw three people leaving a Central Avenue house and, believing them to be illegal aliens, gave chase on foot, he said. The suspects ran down an alley and entered a house in the 4000 block of Wightman Street.

Agents found a large bag of marijuana, more than 20 bags of cocaine and more than 30 bags of black tar heroin, Gregg said. A .357-magnum firearm was also recovered.

The amount and value of the drugs had not been determined because of the inconsistency in the packaging, Gregg said. “We’re not talking hundreds of pounds, we’re talking ounces,” he said.

One man, Sergio Leon Padilla, 18, was taken into custody. Four other suspected illegal aliens, two men and two women, will be questioned and returned to Mexico if they are found not to be connected with the drugs, Gregg said.
