WORLD : Strong Quake Shakes Armenia
A strong earthquake today shook the northern Armenian cities that were devastated in December by quakes that killed 25,000 people.
There were no reports of injuries or damage to buildings from today’s quake, which was centered between the cities of Spitak and Kirovakan. “This is an area where there is nothing left to destroy,” said an editor of Armenia’s official Armenpress news agency in a telephone interview.
She said the quake, which registered 6 on the 12-point Soviet scale, was followed 40 minutes later by a quake that registered 4.
