Robinson’s, a Los Angeles-based department store division of May Department Stores, said David Overton, formerly with McKinsey & Co., has been named vice president and assistant to the president. He reports to Robert L. Mettler, Robinson’s president and chief executive.

Overton joined the Dallas office of McKinsey in 1984 after receiving a master’s degree from MIT’s Sloan School of Management.

He also worked briefly as a financial analyst for Chase Manhattan Bank in New York in 1983 and was a supervising senior auditor for Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co. in Dallas from 1978 to 1982. He received his bachelor’s in business administration from Texas Tech University in 1978.
