An abalone diver was listed in stable condition after being attacked, apparently by a great white shark, in fishing waters off the Farallon Islands. Mark Tisserand, 38, was airlifted by helicopter to Peninsula Hospital in San Mateo, where he underwent surgery to repair injuries to his lower left leg, a hospital spokeswoman said. Great white sharks are common around the Farallons, a rocky bird and wildlife sanctuary off the Marin County coast.
